Holloway was the team's Assistant Coach during the 2011-12 season when the Ice Wolves won the second most games in franchise history with a 30-20-2-6 record. He was also a part of the staff during the 2010 and 2011 playoff runs that saw the Wolves win back to back SJHL Championships, compete in two Anavet Cups and travel to the RBC Cup.
"I only had a one year deal last year and (the Ice Wolves) decided to sign me to a two year deal this year, so I talked with (Bob Beatty) and decided it would be a good fit," Holloway commented Wednesday morning, "I'm looking forward to coming back."
With Head Coach Bob Beatty heading into year two of a five year deal, the Wolves coaching staff has some stability ahead for the next few years.
"I think (it helps). Knowing that the staff will be there and it's easier for when we do recruiting that (Bob) knows that I can go out and do some recruiting for him and know that I'm going to be there down the road. It definitely helps for team chemistry."
Holloway and Beatty present Carre with Award |
"We just finished going to the Midget camp in Regina last weekend and we're going to the Bantam one next weekend. We've got holes we have to fill... We're obviously looking for a goaltender and some defencemen and finding the next Marc-Andre Carre would be nice too."
Asked about working with Bob Beatty, a four-time SJHL Coach of the Year, Holloway says it's valuable experience.
"I'm learning so much from him how he handles the team and the general manager side of the business. I did a little bit of that with the Yorkton Terriers when I was assistant GM there, but to see how he runs it, everyone runs a little bit different and I'm learning a lot from Bob every time I'm working with him.
With Holloway signed and the staff set for next season, the Ice Wolves board turns its attention to the Annual General Meeting coming up in May.
